Make a label in three steps

  1. Copy the VIN from a reliable vehicle record. Check all 17 characters before generating.
  2. Choose Code 39 or Code 128 to match the reader you use.
  3. Download an SVG for sharp printing or a PNG for everyday digital use. Test the label with your scanner.

Keep the barcode easy to scan

Print dark bars on a light background and preserve the white space at both ends. Avoid stretching the image, adding artwork over the bars, or printing a label too small for the reader. Confirm the scanned result matches the original VIN. Our guide to VIN barcodes on the lot explains which format to choose and where labels help.

Does this create a new VIN?

No. It encodes an existing VIN as a barcode. Use it for internal records and inventory workflows. It does not create a vehicle identity or replace a manufacturer’s identification label.

Can I check the label I made?

Yes. Open the VIN barcode scanner and choose the PNG image you downloaded. Review the decoded text before using it in another system.
