What this shows
Enter a 17-character VIN and the tool returns the details the manufacturer reported for that vehicle: model year, make, model, trim, body style, engine, drivetrain, fuel type and where it was built. Use it to check that a listing or a seller’s description matches the vehicle. To find the VIN on a car and see what each part of it means, read where to find your VIN, and what it tells you.
What it doesn’t show
A VIN decoder describes how a vehicle was built. It does not show vehicle history, title status, ownership, theft records, odometer readings or value. A decoded VIN also does not tell you the condition of a particular car, so your team still needs to review it.
Where the data comes from
Results come from NHTSA’s public vPIC database. It covers vehicles sold in the US market, and it can have gaps for older vehicles and for vehicles that were never registered here. If a field is blank, the manufacturer did not report it.
